The first NYNLM showcase at Subrosa presents 3 internationally celebrated NY based groups that bring grit to salsa, groove to son, sugar to clave, and ron to rock, they will make you dance and think with some of the most audacious new Latin roots music on the scene today.

Zemog El Gallo Bueno is a New York City based group of musician friends. Zemog is a 2015 international mutation that plays 21st century Latin music adventuring through 1930’s Puerto Rican street cries and laments, 60’s free jazz fumes, 70’s New York salsa residue, a cough that starts a rhythm and a found object montuno. Each composition is a battle ground for the search of the golden-tin rooster we call Zemog. Zemog plays the soundtrack to your true and false identities as they hug to danceable Latin polyrhythms that have a tropical past randomizing the snow flake future.

Weaving musical bridges that connect traditional and modern Cuban dance music with, salsa, funk, and world beat rhythms, Ola Fresca, behind the creative energy of Jose Conde, through 10 years and 2 acclaimed, award winning albums have evolved a swinging, fearless tropical sound directly from Brooklyn. Their latest album, ELIXIR, has received unanimous international praise and was recently called “one of the best albums of the 2015” by World Music Central.

Mixing the vntage grooves of Latin soul and boogaloo with a contemporary perspective, SPANGLISH FLY is “single-handedly reviving bugalú in NYC” (NBC New York).NEW YORK BOOGALOO, their second album, was released in September of 2015. “This is a seriously wonderful record, full of spectacular, raucous musicianship” (World Music Report).

Subrosa is an eclectic listening room dedicated to showcasing music, art, and culture. Located in New York’s Meatpacking District, with live music nightly, the venue’s focus is to provide a unique creative hub for the finest artists in Latin & World Music disciplines and beyond — in an intimate environment for musicians and fans alike.
